My Story of Personal Transformation
My name is John Mermin and my greatest passion and inspiration in life is to become an international expert in mind-body harmony and wellbeing. I believe that every person who takes initiative to improve their wellness will treat the people in their life in a more mindful and compassionate way. This creates ripple effects leading to a healthier and happier city and world.
I have a unique life story that has shaped who I am and my distinct approach to transformational change. I come from a family of holistic health practitioners, with a massage therapist mother and a life-coaching sister. My father died of cancer when I was an adolescent. Both his personality and his passing impacted me in a profound way. I inherited from him (and my mom!) a distinctly calm, grounded and lighthearted energy. In my 20s, when I felt ready to process the meaning of his death, I experienced an epiphany and was left with a changed outlook on life, including:
1) An intense desire to cherish each moment I spend with people
2) A deep and unwavering optimism.
My mission and purpose
I later realized that my life’s purpose is to share my optimistic, calming and lighthearted presence with everyone I meet. My professional mission is to inspire clients with my passion for self-care, my peaceful, positive energy, and use Amma Therapy to help them optimize their health and wellness.
Rather than just helping you feel ‘a little better’, I will treat all facets of who you are —physical, emotional, and spiritual. You will not only experience rapid relief, but you also have a blueprint for balanced and healthy living that will serve you for the rest of your life. I will never just put a ‘bandage’ on your symptoms. Rather, I treat at a deep, core level that produces lasting healing and change. I have unique abilities and life perspective to help you get to this place. I excel at helping people find deep emotional and spiritual balance in a very grounded and practical way.
How I’ve transformed my own health
Though my story and approach are unique, in other ways I’m just an ordinary guy. I’ve been playing sports for over 30 years and have been working in a white-collar office job for the last 15. My job has been quite stressful at times. I’ve felt that worrisome knot in my stomach before a big presentation or deadline, the painful headaches and the nagging sense of unease. I’ve experienced poor digestion, teeth grinding, headaches and irritability. I spent years hurriedly eating my microwaved-lunch at my desk while reading stressful emails.
I’ve developed several simple and practical habits to overcome feelings of anxiety, stress and frustration. When faced with the pressure to perform I now exude confidence, focus and ease. 20 years of practicing self-care through yoga, tai chi and qigong, have cultivated the innate calm and grounded quality that I inherited from my parents.
Three decades of playing sports has further enhanced my insights into the mind-body connection. In addition to the exercise and endorphins, sports have been a godsend for me. They connect me with the joys of childhood and memories of my father watching me shine at something I was naturally talented at. Through my athletic endeavors I have developed tools to overcome fear and anxiety of performing in high pressure situations. This dates way back to playing in the deciding match of the State Finals for my high school tennis team.
My training in Amma Therapy
My efforts to transform my body and mind have culminated in my recent training in an amazingly powerful modality incorporating Asian bodywork, known as Amma Therapy. Pursuing Amma Therapy was born out of the sense that something had gone amiss in my life. The nagging anxiety and stress was my body telling me I needed to make a change. I just knew there was more I could be getting out of life. Through soul-searching and life coaching with mentors I made the bold decision to reduce my office job hours to half-time. I then embarked on a 2+year training in Amma Therapy at The Wellspring School for Healing Arts.
A huge component of The Wellspring School’s Amma Therapy curriculum focuses on personal growth. Students are given the tools and training to improve their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. This deep work allowed me to further develop an incredible level of focus, authenticity and an ability to provide inspiration to my clients. They follow my lead to help them achieve faster and more effective results. I don’t think that it was accident that you’ve made yourself to my website and I would live to start providing this inspiration to you.
